Warlords of Draenor (colloquially referred to as WoD or Warlords) is the fifth expansion pack for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft. It was officially announced on November 8, 2013 at BlizzCon 2013. The expansion currently has a tentative release date of fall 2014 (on or before December 20th, 2014), and is available for pre-purchase on Battle.net.
Amid Draenor’s untamed jungles and battle-scarred plains, a merciless new Iron Horde has been forged from the mighty orc clans of old. To save their own world from impending invasion, Azeroth’s heroes will need to explore the far reaches of this unforgiving land, achieving new heights of power on their way to the new level cap of 100. To establish a foothold on Draenor, players will construct, command, and expand their own Garrison, a customizable base of operations and refuge for the followers you recruit to your desperate cause. Warlords of Draenor also empowers players to instantly boost one character to level 90, making it so anyone can join the battle for Draenor alongside their friends.
Warlords of Draenor is the first expansion pack to exist primarily before the main timeline, and depicts a timeline that branches from the original. It is also the second expansion that is set beyond the world of Azeroth, the first being The Burning Crusade, which featured Outland, the current, shattered incarnation of Draenor.
Warlords of Draenor comes in three version: Standard Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition.
On April 3, 2014, Blizzard announced that the Warlords of Draenor closed alpha test had begun. Blizzard posted a preview of the patch notes a few hours later. The expansion’s external “Friends and Family” phase began on June 5, and the beta test began on June 27.
